Relativity has no character of its own. It is neither truth,
nor untruth. If I claim, I am better than John, it has no meaning, because it
does not tell you whether John is good or bad.
Success has a character similar to relativity. The one who is successful, according to
today’s standards, in a place ‘X’ or in certain circumstances, might have been
an utter failure yesterday, in a place ‘Y’ or in entirely different
circumstances.
If ‘absolutism’ has little meaning, then ‘relativism’
definitely has no meaning. We should never judge ourselves by where we float; we
must find where we are rooted. Success is a non-issue. It can’t be used to
locate a reference in our lives. If we rely on the criteria of success we may
not be able to find whether we are being elevated or suffering a downfall.
Our life begins when we have a yardstick of our own to
measure ourselves.
