It won’t be unfair to anybody if we categorically state that
various economic principles have generally paid scant attention to the
spiritual and moral aspects of human life. It is true that last four to five
decades have witnessed an increasing concern for this lapse. However, beyond some
moderation in the fierceness in the efforts of those who work for concentrating
wealth at predetermined points no fundamental change is being observed.
While I do not deny that there is a lot that is superficial
and pretentious about equitable distribution of wealth, I suspect there is much
of arrogance in the people who talk about and work towards being fair in economic
matters.
Economic fairness must come from a heart that is
compassionate and humble. It can’t be considered as a ‘job’ to be performed by
intellectually able people driven by their egos, notwithstanding the purest of
intentions that they might be having.
