We say our words must not hurt others.
True, we have no right to harm others. Hurting one, to ensure that many are not
harmed may be the right way of speaking sometimes. We must speak out where a
thief may be hiding, to ensure that he is caught. It should be ensured that he
stops stealing; that would help many and also the thieves.
You cannot
please everybody with your speech, every time. In fact, when you do this, you
place your interests above the others. Speaking only to please others, keeps
many things that must come out, under the wraps. We should also not speak only
to please ourselves. If we do that we would be trapped in the cobweb of
illusions and misgivings about ourselves.
The minimum
that is required from us is that we do not support the untruth and do not cause
any harm with our speech. We will make a progress if we speak in support of
truth and never against it. Practically, what benefits many may be viewed as
the ‘immediate truth’. Blessed are those who have developed an ability to
reveal the truth; maybe, only the small truths and that too, occasionally.
Out of the
many external appearances that are deceptive, the lies are more harmful than
the most. We must work upon ourselves to get rid of the lies (the untruth). It
is not difficult because we have plenty of lies floating all around us that can
serve as lessons to learn from; the lessons that tell us what must not be done.
