Genuine inquiry, strong commitment to know,
respectful faith that there does exist a source, maybe unknown to us for the
time being, that shall reveal a truthful answer to what one wants to know sets
the right intellectual process in motion. Strong commitment propels one to
explore and faith settles him in unhurried observation, correct viewing and peaceful
contemplation. We need to kindle the fire of the desire to know and keep its
flames always alive; restraining it by sprinkling water on it from time to
time, so that it does not become wild, just as what we do while performing Yajna,
is the right conduct to ensure that right intellectual process continues till
we are alive.
The
purest form of Yajna is the Satvik Yajna, the Yajna that
is for the benefit of all, and not for one’s own benefit. Similarly, the
genuine inquiry must be aimed at knowing the truth, the truth that harms none
and protects all against their shortcomings, weaknesses and pains.
How
a genuine inquiry gets generated? It gets generated with the help of the
simplest possible intellectual process of satisfying instinctive mental desire
to see and deal with things that are in perfect order.
Lack
of commitment, selfishness, many affinities with sensory desires, ostentatious
life styles distanced from the nature, the habit of viewing and understanding
things in complicated ways, absence of simplicity in thought, conduct and
expression, impatience, and doubt derail the intellectual process completely.
