From his childhood Haricharan
had only one desire; to be able to meet Shri Hari.
He did everything, sacrificed
everything and left no stone unturned so that he could meet Shri Hari.
Ultimately he found himself
standing at the gate of Prabhu Dham.
All of a sudden an extremely
beautiful and attractive woman appeared before him.
“What brings you here
Haricharan?” she asked in a very sweet voice and melodious tone.
“I want to see Shri Hari.”,
Haricharan replied.
“You are coming from a far off
place and are definitely very tired. Why don’t you come to my palace that is
close by, take a refreshing bath, have something to eat and drink and take some
rest that you badly need. After that I shall arrange your meeting with Shri
Hari.”, the woman said invitingly.
“I am very obliged to you,
but I shall prefer to wait here till I am able to see Shri Hari.”, Haricharan’s
reply was short.
“I was trying to make things
simple for you, but you appear to be very adamant. Remember, you can approach
Shi Hari only through me. The other method is very difficult. Hardly anybody
who adopts that route succeeds. Do you want to know about the other route? The
attractive woman was angry.
“Please be kind to tell me
about the other route.” Haricharan asked.
“Then, I will ask you three
questions. If I am satisfied with your answers, I will let you see Shri Hari.”
Haricharan instantly replied,
“Please start with your questions.”
The beautiful woman was
finding it difficult to hide her anger. She abruptly began, “What is
Brahmacharya?”
Haricharan waited for some
time, “Never in my life had this question ever disturbed me. I actually do not
know what the right answer to this question is. I think, that my desire to see
Shri Hari not being diluted by anger of the most attractive woman of the world
knowing well that she is fully competent
not to permit me to see my Lord, My Shri Hari; that is Brahmacharya.”
Hearing that she was called
most attractive woman of the world, the beautiful woman softened her voice but
without expressing any emotions on the answer to the first question.
“What is truth?” the
beautiful woman raised the second question.
This time Haricharan took
hardly any time in responding.
“I do not think that I can
give a proper answer to this question. All I know is that for some reasons not
well known to me I have been inspired to believe that the purpose of my life is
to search for Shri Hari and know
everything about him. This makes me believe that only Shri Hari is the truth.”
Haricharan ended his reply looking straight in the eyes of the beautiful and
attractive woman. Expressions of the woman showed that she was not expecting a
quick answer to this question.
“My last question is, when
you meet Shri Hari what wish you will like to be fulfilled by His grace?”
“ Mere Jeevan ko samast bhramon
se mukta kar do, He Prabhu.” [“Make my
life free from all illusions, O My Lord.”]
No sooner Haricharan
completed his sentence, the gate of Prabhu Dham vanished, the beautiful and
attractive woman vanished, all what was being seen so far vanished, and even
the body of Haricharan vanished. There was pure light without any glare or
glitter. Absolute peace prevailed in all the directions.
Then, there was an
extraordinarily deep voice that pronounced,
“EVAMASTU.”
Now, Haricharan had no desires left
