Leadership is needed to change the state of the people
they are in. For example, if people are not united, they need a leader who can
unite them. In a democracy, people elect their leaders. Do you think a
population having a majority of separatist people could ever elect a leader who
unites them?
Does it mean that a right leader gets elected in a
democracy only by chance, not because of the intention of the people? I think,
in a democracy, things work that way only. However, we, as citizens of a democratic
country can learn an important lesson from this.
The right minded people in a democracy must go solidly
behind the right candidate considering it as their duty. For, even if a few
from the majority of the people with wavering or doubtful minds erroneously vote
in favour of the right candidate, the right candidate wins. More often than not,
the right candidate loses in elections, not that much because the majority consists
of self-centered people but, because the right minded people fail to respond to
the elementary demands of a democratic system.
We all know that democracy implies that each one has a
right to elect a leader of his choice. On practical considerations, we must
extend this definition and say; democracy is sustained if right minded people
consider it as their duty to be firm and consistent in electing a right leader.
