During deep and prolonged selfless
contemplation a time comes when the heart murmurs, “That’s it. That’s it.” That
exactly is the point of time when one must act to experiment with the thought
that sent a powerful impulse to inspire one to verify if one is on the right
track. It is always a confluence of intellectual activity, heartfelt feelings
and human compulsiveness, all appearing simultaneously, to inspire one to act
at the right moment to negotiate unknown changes in one’s surroundings. It is
not necessary that an order of deep intellectual activity is followed by a
response from the heart that triggers an action, an emotional state may be
followed by an intense intellectual activity or during the course of an action
one may experience things that need resolution through contemplation.
A
man has emotions, he cannot live without action and he has the ability to think.
If scriptures have accepted and suggested any of three from Jnananyog,
Karmyog or Bhaktiyog can be opted out by the man for elevating himself, it
is because different people go through different experiences and, therefore,
are more comfortable with any of the three, that are, thinking, feeling and
experiencing, or acting with a purpose, as compared the rest of the two.
The
important thing about the human life on this earth is that no one lives alone.
One lives with and depends on other human beings; or one lives with and depends
on other living beings or at least, the nature. The arguments about the ‘complete
detachment from one’s surroundings’ are meaningful to only those who, for some
reasons best known to them, have been able to settle themselves with the
thought, action and experience that they, themselves, are the Brahma, the
solitary entity existing in this universe. This rarest of the rare thought has
been presented or ‘postulated’ by ancient Indian philosophy, which need not be
viewed as some target by anyone, unless the one, of his own, is lead to it,
after several interactions with the confluence of emotions, intellectual pursuits
and actions.
We,
individually, are one of the infinitely many entities existing in this universe
and are dependent on others, which, in turn depend on us, is the thought we may
have to get settled with. This is the thought most suited to human nature
verifiable with the help of human abilities to feel, experience, think and act.
However, superficially, we are us, and not the others. This creates many
doubts. The truth may emerge only after we have removed the doubts constantly
hovering over us. We can endeavor to remove those doubts without harming us,
only if, we do not harm others. Being harmless; with our emotions, thoughts and
actions; is of paramount importance.
Truth
is nothing but absolute absence of any and all kinds of doubts. Spiritual
state, if there is one, can be noticed and realized only if entered into the
realm of truth. There is no other way to realize the truth except being harmless
in our emotions, thoughts and actions, plus, of course, in our words, because,
as human beings, we can communicate with other human beings.
Detachment
from harmful emotions, thoughts, deeds and words is the detachment we can
easily target and achieve. It is not possible to step into the path of
spirituality without being harmless.
