A boy in geography period is
thinking about the cricket match that is being played outside his class room.
Another boy during a meditation class is thinking about his incomplete homework
that is to be submitted in the next period.
It is easy to blame the boys;
but are we always engrossed in what we do? The modern business world has
realized that man is the costliest machine that makes an error almost instantly
the moment it is left of its own. That is why we find so much of automation and
mechanization.
I remember that about 40-50
years back people did huge figure- work and calculations without even using a
calculator or table, continuously for 5-6 hours, without making a single
mistake.
Is man losing control on
himself? Has he inflated his external world a bit too much that makes his mind
wander more than ever?
Man with his superior
intellect is expected to learn from each moment that he lives. When his mind is
not present where he is at any moment, how can he learn? Unless and until the
modern man does not decide to change his life and lifestyle, no amount of
meditation or automation would help.
Right
type of intellectual development is possible only through productive use of
physical labour. Intellectual development is possible even otherwise, but in
that case there is no guarantee of the nature of its outcome. Right development
includes all the three kinds of developments; intellectual, physical and
spiritual.
(Mahatma
Gandhi)
Defective
intellectual development cannot provide happiness. Modern man should have
courage to make fundamental changes in himself and in the world around him.
Happiness
in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.
(Ernest
Hemingway)
