VAGDEVI SPIRITUAL PROCESS [#17218] FOLLOWING A RULE

Often we are tempted to commit to follow some rules, worldly in nature, for our betterment. We take an oath, pledge or simply decide to bind ourselves to the disciplines as per the demands of rules we opt for. And, more often than not, we give up sooner or later. It is unwise to blame the conditions prevailing in the outside world or the strength of our own resolutions for the failure, without thinking of the damage it may cause to our future efforts, a possibility that should never be ruled out.

Is not better to ponder over the various elements of the rules we think of following and our relationship with the world and our own self during the entire process of our future efforts and possible outcomes thereof?

The first question we must ask ourselves is whether we have the ability to follow the rules we opt for. The answer must be in the affirmative, with no strings attached; if it is not so, then, the idea must be dropped.

After having received an answer in the affirmative, we must ask ourselves if our following the rules we have opted for, anybody else would be harmed in any way. If there is any chance of any damage being caused to others, the whole idea must be dropped totally, because in that case, your following the rules will not do any good to you, in the final analysis.

If both of the above tests are cleared, we must get down to anticipating  all internal and external conflicts that may arise during the process of our making efforts and also those  which may surface once we have started following the rules we had opted for. We must keep in mind that this analysis is not meant for reviewing our decision; it is only meant to empower ourselves a little more for achieving the right kind of success. The right kind of success means, the success that extends and enhances the benefits of a successful effort.

Many among us opt for some rule or other to improve our predicament. Many are able to follow the rules they opt for; those who are successful after making rigorous efforts are also many. However, we often find that our successes are usually fringed with things that eclipse the results we anticipated or imagined when commencing our journey to success. The problem is that we fail to see what it takes to follow a worldly rule. That exactly is the reason why it is believed that a worldly success hardly contribute to the quality of our life.

We cannot overlook the world around us; but we can definitely look more deeply into the things we do. And, there is no rule that prevents us from doing it.
