Pride
is a negative quality more damaging than it is believed to be. Let us discuss
more about it. Firstly, pride results from an overestimation about one’s status
with respect to the others. Secondly, the one who is proud of himself, more
often than not, carries several misconceptions about what must be taken as
‘statuses’ of a man. Thirdly, in his eagerness to maintain his own status, a
proud man tries to manipulate the understanding of the facts and the scale used
to measure levels of one’s achievements and also that of the others through
one’s efforts or otherwise. These drawbacks harm the proud person directly and
the external world indirectly.
The matter does not end here. A proud person, always much
more inclined to view himself as a superior human being, may adopt violent and
mean methods to lower the ‘status’ of
others who, in the perception of the proud person, are superior to him. By
doing this, a proud person becomes a real threat to the goodness in this world.
The people with pride fall. They imagine themselves to be superior, but they go
about becoming meaner than ever. We must keep ourselves away from pride.
It is not wise to set aside a proud person merely as a fool
that often harms himself more than he harms others, he must be appropriately
dealt with for the benefit of the society.
