The worldly ways, giving disproportionately
more importance to the gratification of the senses than naturally appropriate,
often devalue human life, promote selfishness and demean the Divine laws. Most
of the religions invented rituals to constantly remind human beings about the
gross wastefulness and cruelty of the worldly ways, and to direct them to be
genuinely concerned about the fellow living beings. However, the selfish and
fallen elements of the human society abused rituals and used them in their self
interests, even at the cost of alienating the man with himself and the others.
In
modern times, the worldly ways have developed rather awkwardly to become a
powerful tool for sensory gratification, shamelessly undermining the selfless
human bond of love and compassion. The traditional extravaganza and religious
ritualism are being cunningly fused together to serve and the worldly ways,
partly to enhance the fun element for the powerful and selfish, and partly to
misguide the weak and the simple.
The
ritualistic and traditional elements of religions and the social conduct must
be viewed with microscope in today’s time. This is the time when virtues are
being corrupted to weaken the truth and empower the untruth. The modern world
is heavily inhabited by those who are more concerned about themselves than the
others, and who value their own desires more than their duties. They make a
callous world. Their rituals, no longer help them remember and practice the
right things; they are mere pretentious and ostentatious presentations of the
untruth in their minds in the garb of the truth.
