Sometimes we think that we can change things if
we act. Some other times we think we cannot change things even if we act. We
rarely think that we can change ourselves independent of our actions. We do notice when it is a different world,
but we fail to notice when we are a different individual. There is nothing
wrong in accepting the world around us as some kind of reference even when we
introspect, but everything is wrong if the external world is accepted as the
only reference during all activities of our mind and intellect.
Separating
ourselves from our actions and the external world is a challenge; perhaps, the
only challenge worth accepting in our lives. For this, we have to begin with
the world closer to us than any other world; our needs, our desires, our
actions, our satisfaction, our frustrations, our happiness, our sufferings and
all what we can imagine as related to ourselves as individuals.
We
tend to stick to whatever we come across; an object, a thought, a desire or
even a word. It is the habit of sticking to ‘things’ that we must get rid of.
We must not begin with any presumption about the path we have to tread; we must
simply move on with a strong determination. We all are capable of carving out a
suitable path for ourselves. A small patch of path carved out by us with our
own efforts is worth more than the several miles suggested to us by others. For,
if we depend on others, we negate what we aim at, that is, abandoning the habit
of sticking.
