Most
of us have no difficulty in noticing the declining trends in their lives. While
many become panicky and start blaming the circumstances for the downfall, a few
do have the temperament and ability to patiently analyze the worsened
situations with a view to sift out the reasons for the downfall. However, how
many of those who have identified the causes of their failures, are able to
solve their problems is difficult to predict.
When one comes to know about the reasons for his failures, he
often becomes much preoccupied with the efforts to rectifying the errors that
have been made in the past and appropriately dealing with all the shortcomings
that might have caused the damage. In such situations, one encounters multiple
dilemmas regarding the priorities of rectification and damage control. One
often loses his control and becomes a puppet in the hand of his own reactions
and the reactions of the outside world in dealing with his misfortune. Only
those who ever landed up in a situation as described above can appreciate the
predicament of one who acted to succeed, but miserably failed.
It is rather unfortunate that only a very few, landed up in
such conditions, turn to the scriptures in the right manner to find some
answers to their problems; the majority reposes more trust on ‘charismas’ than the
philosophical content of the scriptures, erroneously assuming that the
philosophies of the scriptures are too
outlandish to deal with such mundane situations.
Much concerned about failures and success, the
one in distress is likely to repeat the same or similar errors as the ones that
caused his downfall. And, that has generally been found to actually happen in
real life situations. The scriptures say, “Immediately stop committing more
errors, undergo penance for the errors that have been committed in the past and
take an oath never to repeat them ever again.” If we rely on this philosophical
solution, we may find things being automatically rearranged for a more peaceful
journey after a disastrous turn in life.
