Greed
is all about the desire to have more than one’s needs. Most of us justify greed
by pointing towards the possible dangers of losing what has been earned through
hard work for fulfilling one’s needs. They claim that most of the time the
greed is nothing but taking appropriate precaution. If that argument is
accepted then we can redefine our needs by adding a reasonable safety margin to
compensate for human errors or the acts of the God. But, what happens when one
develops a desire to go for more when he has got or is about to get what he
aimed for?
Greed always pushes us to a point of no return. The greed is
nothing, but keeping us busy till the inevitable death is realized. It is a
journey towards the darkness that can’t be abandoned by choice; one is forced
to abandon it.
The thought of the objects one does not need, of the people who
possess objects they do not need and the thought of the objects one does not
have are so overwhelming that they do not leave any space in our minds to think
about what must be thought about, The greedy are the perpetually thinking machines
about what has no future. Does it make any sense to seek the company of such
machines?
