VAGDEVI SPIRITUAL PROCESS [#15058] COMPASSION, BEYOND THE EMOTIONAL STATE

When one experiences, pains of others, as his own, and endeavors to eliminate such pain without any self interest, is true compassion. Normally, the one who is compassionate passes through emotional experiences in the entire process. As ordinary human beings we are expected to be compassionate.

However, there are people in whom deep concern for the misery and pain of others is well settled. Such people do not need to watch or become aware of an occurrence causing pain to others to get stimulated to act for removing such pain. For example, the very thought that poor people suffer, may never leave their minds; and they keep on selflessly and devotedly working, whichever way they can, for eradication of poverty. Such people are not like many who work for eliminating the conditions that are the root causes of the poverty on the basis of the intellectual knowledge they possess about the ills of poverty; they are often the ones who, in the past, have overcome their emotional turmoil arising out of internalizing the pains of the others, and have committed themselves to give a part of their lives to others, to those who need help and support.

The humanity has always been benefited by the compassionate acts that are not dependent on emotional stimulation. The being that is believed to be in possession of infinite compassion is the God, who can’t be imagined to be guided by his ‘emotional states’, if he has any.
