There is nothing like better or the best in
spirituality. Comparisons are manmade and have no universal appeal or
application. In spirituality a thing can be true or it can be untrue. For
instance, nonviolence is truth and violence is untruth. When you say ‘bigger
violence’, there may be a tacit acceptance of ‘smaller violence’ by you.
If
one thinks in terms of a good action, a better action or the best action; he
distances himself from the truth and gets closer to the falsehood. There are
people who are well settled with the thoughts of making comparisons.
Expressions like; “He is richer than me”, “I am more beautiful than her”, “I am
more intelligent than him” and “I am more honest than her” etc. indicate how
far away from the right path one is.
A
right teacher to guide you in the right direction would begin with erasing the
thoughts of distinction and discrimination from your mind. If he overlooks this
step, the right course of action for you would be to settle yourself with the
thought of your own humble ignorance and cleaning your slate as much as
possible, and commencing your journey all alone with enormous faith in guidance
coming from the Divine. You will find that even a humble blade of soft grass
has the ability to become your teacher. Come close to the simple and humble
entities created by the Creator; the Divine knowledge is often expressed
through them as they do not possess the ego that compares, distinguishes and
discriminates.
