This blog does not deal with any valuable
principles of life or ideals that give meaning to one’s life, it refers to a
very unwelcome situation in life that most of us are forced to encounter. In
general, everyone finds himself standing at the crossroads of life, at one time
or the other, not knowing which way to go. All the roads, due to some adverse
circumstances or otherwise, lead one to where he just does not want to reach.
One’s predicament often gets worsened when he finds that he has no one around
who could even guide him, what to say about walking a few steps together with
him. One feels stranded in the labyrinth of life with no external support or no
physical and mental strength. We often refer to such circumstances as “all
gone’’ circumstances.
A
lesson that I have learned in my life and that has been verified repeatedly for
its correctness taught me that the only solution, that incidentally, happens to
be the most positive solution also, is that the victim of ‘all gone
circumstances’ should abandon many of his movements on the congested horizontal
pathways of life and should endeavour to rise above himself and his
circumstances. He should, without worrying about the outcome of his efforts, about
which, he, as it is, has virtually no hopes, stop thinking about himself and
his future, and should dedicate his already much dissipated energy for the
benefit of the others. It has been found that the small energies, thus diverted
away from many external and internal obstructions, prejudices and blockades,
deliver at least some highly welcome and positive results. After some
persistent and consistent efforts one finds new avenues being open to let him
out of helplessness.
The
oft given suggestion that one must think of himself first before trying to deliver
some benefit to the other is about delivering spiritual benefit and making
refinements in character. It has no relation to sharing with and delivering
material benefits to fellow beings that, as such, is the prerequisite for the
appropriate collective living. Excessive self-centeredness often blocks the
pathways that lead to even our physical and material growth, in addition to
proper development of our intellectual, spiritual and mental abilities.
Perhaps, elevating oneself means elevating one above his self-centeredness; it
is not a great leap upwards to reach to the Almighty, it is being concerned
about those who also live, just as we do.
