Remaining committed to fulfilling one’s
spiritual and physical duties in this life, and, at the same time, remaining
peaceful appears to be too difficult a proposition. At times, it looks as if
the man is not actually entitled to peace; he only steals a few moments of
peace from somewhere, somehow.
One
may practice not to be much concerned about the fruits of his actions for one’s
own benefit, and may achieve some success also; but, he cannot omit to be
extremely careful about the quality of his actions. The way the mankind has
moulded his life, he has to keep on learning and experimenting to maintain the
quality of his actions. This rarefies the moments of peace the man may steal
for himself.
The
modern times and circumstances demand that we do not make tranquility of mind
and the thought of ‘eternal happiness’ too big an issue in our lives; instead,
we must try to derive satisfaction from selfless actions that we are able to
perform according to our abilities and from our constant efforts to maintain
and improve the quality of actions. We
must simplify ourselves to be able to derive innocent pleasure from small
things in life knowing full well that actually small is wonderful and hence, is
beautiful.
