All
that is truthful, nonviolent, loving, just, beneficial for all at all times,
compassionate, honouable, regenerating, rejuvenating and Divine is founded on
courage; and, all that is violent, deceitful, pretentious, hateful, oppressive,
harmful, full of anger, cruel, disrespectful, degenerating and devilish is
founded on fear. The courageous experience happiness in sorrow and life in
death; and the fearful experience sorrow in happiness and death in life. The
modern psychologists have come up with a fairly accurate list of human emotions,
perhaps, after carrying out a thorough search of what has been written by those
who dedicated their lives to giving expression to human emotions. Human
emotions have a decisive influence over man’s thoughts and conduct notwithstanding
his training, character and deep intellectual contemplation. And, all the emotion
that have been identified so far or which may ever be identified in future may
be categorized under two broad heads, ‘Courage’ and ‘Fear’.
The one who is fearful of losing something that he needs or
is comfortable with may experience any of the negative emotions. He finds
himself unable to live in a positive and constructive state of mind. He becomes
a source of falsehood, making himself and the others unhappy.
Those, who are much concerned about them or what they think
to be owned or linked to them as if possessed or controlled by them, are
fearful of losing what they are comfortable with. Such people lack proper
understanding of the basic truth of the material life, that is, whatever is
material is not eternal; it can be lost, transformed, destroyed, or separated
from what it is linked to. There is nothing unusual about the loss of material
things. It is bound to happen, today or tomorrow.
Those, who are aware of the basic or the immediate truth about
the inherent drawback in whatever is purely material and devoid of any soul; and,
have also thoroughly internalized it, develop a happy and creative state of
mind. They move ahead with courage and conviction. They become a source of
happiness, creativity and regeneration. They live an honourable life and become
an example for others.
Selflessness must become a spiritual goal. After developing
the basic knowledge about how illusive the material things are, one must target
selflessness. Selflessness must be taught, it must be learned and it must be practiced.
When one acquires the quality of courage through selflessness, he experiences
things that are positive within him and around him. He becomes an agent of
change for his immediate surroundings to start with. The universe comes later,
but, it does come within the range of a courageous person.
