There
is a huge difference between what we need and what we want. We go for things
that we are supposed to want. The world tells us what we must go for if we want
to be happy. The irony of the situation is that it is the same world that is
not happy. Does that mean that the world, in pursuit of its own happiness,
knowingly or unknowingly, misguides us about what can make us happy?
To answer this question, we must scrutinize our thoughts,
actions and words. Do we, whenever we are in a position to influence others,
guide others with a hidden desire to benefit ourselves? Whether we play the
role of parents, elders, teachers, leaders, friends, philosophers or
salespeople in the marketplace, we are unable to dispel the fear of possible
harm to us by what we deliver to those who depend on us for something or the
other. This also cannot be denied that we get exactly a similar treatment from
the others whom we depend on.
The old saying, ‘one gives what the one gets’, is taken by us
as a natural phenomenon. But, is it as natural as it is made out to be? Maybe,
it is true for the ‘inferior living beings’ that are not blessed with the
intelligence the human being is. The nature has the intelligence to rectify
most of the individual errors committed by those who abide by the natural laws.
The man, being much proud of his intelligence, often fails to abide by the
natural laws. Therefore, the man cannot claim the benefit of the benevolence
the nature; he has to rectify the errors that he commits and, also those that
are committed by the others. The man is responsible for his collective action.
We human beings must give to others what is right and righteous,
and not simply, what we get. All the talks of ‘change’ are worthless unless we
deliver to the others what they need, not we want and what we have made them to
want.
