It is
very difficult for most of us to be in absolute control of our emotions while
dealing with matters related to our physical life, either in our self-interest
or for the benefit of many. But, when we deal with such matters emotionally we
suffer, at least, in two ways. Firstly, the work in hand suffers; secondly, we
lose equanimity of mind, and become prone to spiritual degradation. Therefore,
while dealing with matters that are for our physical benefit, it is better to
be intellectually honest, active and alert, rather than emotionally involved.
Most of us spend a major part of our lives for our physical well-being.
If we are able to learn how to minimize being emotionally involved in matters
relating to our physical well-being, we will, certainly, be able to keep our
emotions in check while contemplating over the meaning and purpose of our life.
Further, useful contemplation is nothing but using our
abilities of thinking without being subjective or emotionally involved.
Thinking about the truth of the things in such a manner is likely to lead us to
‘perfect selflessness’ or universal oneness and realization of our limited
abilities and vulnerabilities in so far as our physical existence is concerned,
which is the essence of spirituality.
